Bendix Throttle Cable Mounting 74xlch
I'm not sure if I have the wrong bracket for the cable or if I'm missing another piece to line up for a straight pull for my cable. I just took it apart a few yers ago, but hell I can't remember last week! I can't find another bike to compare it to around here so any help (pics) would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone.

That is exactly the same setup as my '73 XLH.
The cable lock screw is on swivel shaft.
The throttle cable bracket is held between the top stud and nut of the carb.
...as an aside, looks like you have an "idle tube" or "non-adjustable main jet"...
been down that road the last few days...
And it should be screwed in flush (as you have it) but there should be a thin washer under the head, not sure if its fiber or ???
When you install the throttle cable, make sure the is no tension on the throttle lever
...it can open your throttle plate ay idle...trust me on this one,
I had this problem (this past week) when I re-installed my carb after my rebuild

I made a bracket off the idle screw so it just pulls straight up. keeps the inner cable from rubbing against the metal end of the outer cable I take a pic and post it this afternoon.

Huh. A throttle return spring on the throttle shaft to hold it aginst the idle screw. What a clever idea!
Anybody got a spare?

That's identical to the setup on my '74 XLH. Works good, I think I was able to rotate that bracket outboard just a little to give it a straighter pull but its been working fine either way.

Naaaa. I think I'm gonna use a spring. Within my first mile of my initial ride, the throttle stuck at about 1/2 throttle (2,500r). Now I've adjusted and tickled the cable more than a few times since but the throttle and the piano wire just won't hold the throttle shaft snug aginst the idle screw every time. Just need that last, final nudge of help.
I was just gonna use a spring from the hardware store between the cable stop screw and the air cleaner base... but man, the stock spring sure is cooler.
Oh, BTW, my cable is about 90* off pictured. Almost about flat coming across between the rocker covers and pulling/pushing pretty straight through the throttle's swing. edit: '72XLH

Mine has the stock spring on it, I still added an extra just to be sure. I've got a lead wrist on take-off so the stiffer throttle helps to keep me on the bike!

jdxlch's pic looks normal to me.
It appears he is using a braided throttle cable.
When he opens the throttle the arc on the cable shown in the pic begins to straighten out.
I use the original hard wire throttle cable and when I set mine up I wanted a straight shot if possible.
Well, it is not possible but I eliminated most of it by making my own cable holder.
I made this out of a pair of Quik Fasteners. Two halves go around a round brass ball.

This allows the housing to rotate as the throttle is opened and closed. It works pretty, although I do not think it is really necessary.......

Yep, that is correct. You could turn the barrel around on the throttle lever to make it a little easier to tighten the cable screw. Also, the original has a brass ferrel crimped onto the cable end to prevent it from fraying, still available from HD. I've heard you can also find it at hobby/craft stores, just a very small dia piece of brass tubing.
