Default 4-pin connector to computer

Over the weeked I upgraded my exhaust and tuned my '07 XL1200R with a TTS Mastertune unit. Everything went well and the bike is back on the road after two tune sessions.

Before I started the process, I noticed when I took the rubber boot off the 4-pin connector on the bike, one of the 4 pins was loose under the boot and dropped out of the connector. During the tuning process I did not experience any connectivity issues/problems with TTS Mastertune software reading the bike's computer.

Has anyone had this problem (missing pin) before? Since I did not experience any problems tuning the bike I am not too worried. It seems the bike can communicate with the software with just three pins. Can anyone explain why this would be? Just seems strange the bike left the factory like this. This is the first time I have opened the rubber boot on the connector and I am the first owner.

Are you saying that one of the three pins came out? Three pins only are normal, at least for 2005 XL's. Hence, one empty position in the connector.

Thanks Guys. That makes sense why I have 3 pins in my connector and my tuning worked last weekend. I guess a loose pin found it way into the plug at the factory.

Thanks for the posts. That eases my mind.
