Removing clutch release plate retaining ring?
I'm referring to the one that holds the release plate on - I'm trying to remove the clutch as an assembly. This is NOT the one you need to release pressure on the diapragm spring to remove.
Anybody got any tips? This thing is not a normal snap ring - there are no "hole" for the snap ring pliers to fit into - just a sort of "slot." My snap ring pliers are getting no purchase whatsoever. Tried needle nose pliers, small screwdrivers - nada!
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks - Brian

I use two screwdrivers, one to pull one end out and the other to slip behind it from
going back in while you move the first one.
My 2003 did have holes in the ring though.

It should have holes in it for circlip pliers (at least mine has, and I know for a fact that 2006 XB Buells also did), and I can't see why they'd change it. After you do get it off, I'd check and maybe get a replacement.

Problem solved.
The problem? That I'm a dumbass. I was trying to remove the ring that holds the diaphragm spring in place (without compressing the spring - good thing i DIDN'T succeed)! Finally looked deeper and saw the one I should be removing.
Thanks for trying to help. Some things (people!) just can't be helped!
