Default burnt clutch/ blown clutch basket

I dropped off my 07 sportster with 13000 miles on it to the dealership to check out the slippage that's been going on for a month. Turns out that they needed to order me a new clutch and with labor it is costing me 450. Today they called me and told me that the clutch basket is missing 3 teeth and it's an additional 400 to order it and fix it. I still have an extended warranty and told the guy that I understand the clutch going bad isn't covered but for the basket to be trashed was beyond me. I don't beat the bike up so if he calls back saying its not covered I feel like I need to call myself. I've done all the services on the bike. I also asked for the old clutch parts because I wanted to inspect the condition of the rivets on the spring plates and see if it was really burnt up or worn or the rivets popped out. He said he would check into it and get back to me. Does anyone feel like I may be able to get it covered under warranty, at least the clutch basket?

If they can think of a way to deny your claim, I'm sure they will. Good luck, and don't just ask to see the old parts. Demand them. They are yours. The stock clutch basket makes an awesome ashtray.

you paid for an extended warranty and they won't cover this? Be polite, but indicate the defective spring plate, and get h-d customer service involved.

BTW...an energy one kit with the tool is like 150 bucks and you can do it yourself in about an hour. It isn't hard. Even if you have to buy a new basket.

There is NO FREAKING WAY I would pay that much money to do it. If you are still under factory warranty, tell them you want it replaced under warranty, ask them to call the regional rep, and be calm and nice. Just ask, why this isn't covered? Can you expect to replace these this often? etc... FWIW, H-D bought my brake pads, master cylinder, fluid, etc...The brake pads went bad becasue the MC was defective and blocked the line causing the pads to hang. Just be nice, and like I said call H-D if necessary.

urgh, so now I called the HD-ESP and the rep told me that the dealer should have called immediately to make a claim for the warranty work and that all clutch work is covered under the ESP. GREAT! I call the dealer back and the service rep says, "ohh, I wish you didn't do that because they may void your warranty now." He told me that I had altered the bike when I put my drag bars and put a new clutch cable on it and he believes I tampered with the rear rocker box because it's warped and leaking. The clutch cable is original and that he could take it off the bike and measure it and that I had warranty work done on both rocker boxes at another dealership for leakage. Then he said they may void it cause the adjustment was 1 turn off at the clutch hub. I told the guy I'm not angry I just want to know why the clutch basket wasn't covered so I called myself and when I told the dealer about it they were trying to scare me saying I had altered the bike and they are denying my warranty if the ESP rep looks at it. WTF man just fix it already, it's been 3 weeks now. I think this may be my last visit to this dealer.

also, the reason my adjustment was so off was because I was messing with it before bringing it in trying to get to mess with it cuz no matter how many times i checked it was slipping in 5th, and creeping at a stop.

those are the symptoms that I went to the dealer with and he said my adjustment was out of whack the dealer said I was rolling the dice by calling the warranty rep to inspect it. He has a point I suppose but I didn't agree with him. Also before any work was done he said it wouldn't be covered and when I called the HD-ESP the rep was like, "oh yeah we cover that, I don't know why the dealer didn't call it in" To be honest I was as civil as possible and am willing to pay for the clutch replaced.
