Machining forward Controls
I am in the process of becoming a certified Machinist, during the course we will be required to Machine some things, one of the advantages of this is I will be able to fab some custom parts for my 77' Ironhead, I was wondering if any of you guys have ever Machined your own Forward Controls, and if so Do you know where I can find Machining Blue Prints for forward controls for a 77'. Normally I would take all the measurements i would need off my bike, but, my brother is rebuilding the bottom end and I have with me is the rolling chassis. could someone point me in the right direction. if you have done this yourself and could give me the dimensions that would be great, or let me know where I could find would help too.. thanks for the help.

No measurements here but just some pics of the KraftTech installed and a schematic of the parts. These would be good ones to emulate. I could provide some measurements but not today.

Can't help with prints.. I fabbed my mounts using the old ones as templates.

IronMick, I like the way those look, if it's possible to get me some measurements that would be awesome, I might have to restructure some things but at least I would have a starting point..

I'll see what i can do about measuring while they are on the bike. These have two important characteristics - they are very well built, and they fit between the exhaust and the case - so they work well for shorter legs as well as longer.

Sorry i got distracted and lost track of this. I tried to do some measuring and it is too messy to do it with the parts on the bike - to much stuff in the way causing unuseable angles.
The plates are 3/8" thick steel, and the rods are 1/2" with 5/16" on the threaded ends.
Both ends of the rods are normal threads. It may be easier to adjust the length if one end is reverse threads - something to think about or experiment with. Reverse thread rod ends are easy enough to find.
When making my own i have used 5/16" OD threaded rod and covered it with 5/16" ID chrome plumbing tube.
It may be some time before i have these off the bike. I'll try to remember to get some details then.
