Default starter runs, engine doesn't crank

I hit on this in my "introduce yourself thread" but figured I would ask for assistance it what I think is the right forum.

I just bought my first harley, it's a 72 XLCH frame, 73 XLH1000 motor, and the forks are off a 77 I think (dual disk brakes)

was listed as "$1000.00 firm", but took it home for $600.00
they said it had no compression, what I found is the crank doesn't move the pistons... starter goes, primary chain moves, that's it.

I saw another thread about a woodruff key on the crank ?

getting further into it, I think the primary sprocket is spinning free on the crank, the other end of the shaft where the points are doesn't move when it does.
now to figure out how to get it off, and hope it is as simple as a new key.

You should post this in the Ironhead section. You will get a lot of help there.
