I wouldn't go past the straight vertical center of the tire to prevnt water from being whipped forward.

Sturgis before 60 is a good goal.
I'm 57 and my 27 year old son and I were talking yesterday about possibly riding out there next year. (we live in NH). He's a bit worried about his ass. I told him to buy a real good seat.
Maybe I'll see you there. There is always a thread just before so XLF members can hook up.

I bobbed about an inch and a half off mine (not enough for most people to even notice), and the first rainstorm I was caught in, I felt water slinging up my lower back. I'd just trim it for the look I wanted and not worry too much about the water.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

the more you bob, the wetter you'll get. decide if you want looks or protection. I added a mudflap to the back of my stock fender to get what I wanted.

How bad were shipping costs? I'm thinking about going to other way, shipping my bike when I finally make it to Ireland.
