This Bike is Testing my Patience!!!
After nearly a year trying to fix my inoperative Speedo, I finally get that licked (Thanks Scott i.e. LuxBlue).
Shortly after, my clutch goes. Got that fixed.
This morning I get on my bike to ride to work, hit the start button, let it go and the starter is still spinning. I hit the kill switch and it's still spinning. I turn off the key and pull it out, it's still spinning. It finally killed my battery......
One thing after another!!! About two years ago, I replaced the starter switch because of the same problem.

Needless to say, I had to drive my car to work on what is one of the last riding days in my season.
If I wanted to work on my bike this much, I would have bought an Ironhead.

I'd say it's a sticking solenoid. Possibly tapping it with a wooden hammer handle would have cleared the problem (temporarily anyway). Oh, also the kill switch could be a good testing tool. After charging the battery, you may try it again and if it happens, then throw the kill switch and see if that does the trick. I think that will eliminate the switch as a possibility and if still it keeps spinning it must be the solenoid.
Sorry to hear that you have a season.

Sorry to hear the grief you're going through.
Well! You know which to to use now... Start troubleshooting...Yet again.
Let's hope it's just the solenoid.

why do you say that ? a solenoid is an electro magnet that engages starter when 12 volts is applied , after years of use the contacts get dirty and will weld them selfs together , this is not rocket science

I tried plugging my battery in to my tender. The tender's light did not come on at all - not green or red, just nothing. I thought "this is just my luck" and went out and brought a brand new battery charger.
I hooked it all up, and the tender won't recognize that it's hooked up. I though "great, the new charger I bought is defective". So I hooked it up to a car battery I have in the garage, and the charger works fine.
Why won't my bike battery take the charge?

Sounds like the battery is smoked. Did you put a voltmeter on the battery?
