Default 79 question

New to the site, recently stripped down a 79 that had lots of scars and looked like it spent a few nights in a road ditch. Now getting the last of the parts i need i will post pictures in a few weeks. No show bike, more like a swap meet special! I have a battery strap but theres no where on top to hook it, i am wondering if im missing a tab on the oil tank or if anyone knows where this silly thing goes? got the ten and a half inch strap like it calls for. . . .anyone got pics or input i would appreciate it

Default strap

The Oil Tank and Battery holder are all one unit on the 79, not real sure, but I think there may be a hook at the bottom of the battery tray, between it and the oil tank, and it comes over the top and hooks on the open side at the bottom. Then there was a cover that went over the left side.
I've got and old 79 oil tank laying around the shop some place, and I'll take a look in the morning. I'll check back, cause I'm not real sure, and someone will chime in and let you know.

And, welcome to the forum, from Ia.

Yes there is a place for the strap to hook on the OEM oil tank/battery box on top and at the bottom of the tray. Look at e-bay for pics of it. They have them on there alot.

like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Oil-tank-197...item1e68b93681

And welcome to the forem
