Question IH Mechanic in So.Cal

Have a 1983 XLX-61 with 40k miles and need a reliable mechanic in the Southern California - Los Angeles area - that can refresh the motor. The motor is off the frame at this time. Any recommendations??

Thanks

Best to get more advice/info/etc in the IronHead forum of XLForum, here ...

Ironhead Sportster Motorcycle Talk (1957-1985)

A mechanic will cost you $60 to $100 per hour to do stuff that you can [and IMO that you should] do yourself; and quite frankly the work may not be very good. There have been many stories on this forum about IronHeads messed up by otherwise good mechanics. These engines require knowledge and experience that modern mechanics do not have. You can do it better yourself.

Post in the IronHead forum, describe what are the problems etc with the engine, and you will get some good guidance.

Here, from a list in the IronHead forum, are some recommended IronHead shops for CA ...

USA, CA, Anaheim: http://www.sportyspecialties.com/
USA, CA, Van Nuys: Blackjack Custom Cycles
USA, CA, Fremont: Chino's MC, Jim Carr and team
USA, CA, Eureka: Storme Winters

Blackjack Customs is gone.

Sporty Specialties is still open, and they still work on ironheads.
