Thanks for the suspension info -
In the process of making my parts of the same materials for the very same reasons.
"Sporty Specialities" have these parts in stock i believe ,bit pricey i thought ,but then i have the means to make my own not to complicated parts , so bought parts always seem expensive to me.
Cheers
Chilly

Seems like a lot of time and work when you can just buy one of these and be on your way.
Yes, with the seat and the T-bar the grand total is $500 but it will look like this.

There are those of us who are fabricators and those of us who are buyers. Anyone (who has the money) can buy something.
Those of us who have fabrication in our DNA, we will always make it before we buy it. That is just part of our nature.
For me, cost is not a concern, but the quality of what I am buying is of great concern.
If I see a product of great quality (and a high price is going to go with that) I will always look it over and say............. I can make that, and perhaps make it better.
Then the project begins. The goal is not to save money but rather to see if I can make the item of equal quality, and hopefully even make it a bit better quality.
The final note on this is.....
If I made two bikes, one from entirely purchased parts and the other bike from many parts I had to fabricate myself...........
In the end, and I have both sitting in front of me.............Which bike do you think I would prefer?
If you answered the assembled one, then you are a buyer.
If you chose the homemade parts version then you are a fabricator.
It's all part of the journey.

I understand your point but wouldn't you rather be out riding instead of fabricating. There has to be a point where easier is just easier. Isn't that what it's all about Harley Davidson makes or (fabricates) the bikes and we ride them.

After ya have built a barn ya know how-
my day would say. We are an eclectic groupe here for sure, "fdny" and I share a Firefighter background, myself and my Dad. And "pinion" and I share the "building it is part of the journey" This kit is an example of a super first project for a guy with access to a lathe (bought mine in 1962).
It's all good, I just finished a Matchless G80 basket that had been in a flood and left to rust. Made a lot of stuff and brought back to life a lot more, there are sure many others on craigs that put mine to shame but like the Marine "this one is mine"
The first XLCH I rode was a brand new '63, never had one but looking twards putting an affordable hahaha one back to lookin' like the one I remember.
Thanks All

As for myself, I am equally happy either riding or fabricating.
I get to ride as soon as I can finish the fabrication.
Since the age of 11-1/2 when I made my first 'motorcycle' out of a girls bike and a 5hp Briggs engine, it seems like I was always a fabricator from that point on.

That's a beautiful pic, fdny. I never tire of admiring the old iron--- these things were stunning when new. Can't imagine a showroom full....

Make sure you put plenty of grease on the springs or it will be squeaky.
