What oil do you use with Barnett Kevlars?
Alright I am trying to figure out what oil I should use with my new kevlar clutches and discs that came in the mail from Barnett.
They say do not use Formula Plus but recommend Type 'F' ATF.
I don't want to use ATF or Formula Plus even though some people are using them.
I did a search on this matter but I want to hear what you guys are using for your Barnett Kevlars other than those two.

I am not sure I understand. You don't want to use what they advise against or what they recommend?
For what it is worth I am running either ATF or Formula + in each of my 3 converted dry clutches (62, 68, 69) and am pleased with the results. Engine oil seemed to gum and stick the plates when sitting.
Choices are: ATF, Formula + (or dirt bike wet clutch and trans lube), engine oil...
Lets not turn this into a Transfer Valve discussion, but I think your 81 should have the covered by design.

Soak them in whatever you plan to run in there.
Type F is being used by the old timers and they like it.
20-50 SYN is an option.

Don't use ATF as recommended by Barnett!! I did when I put the Kevlar plates in my '77 and although the clutch action was excellent, I found the tranny became very notchy and harder to shift than when running Formula +. When I drained the ATF, it had a lot of fine shiny particles in it. I put in Formula + and the clutch action is still excellent and the tranny is shifting smoothly again.

I want to use whatever is best for my transmission and clutches.
Here are my concerns:
I don't want to use ATF because of possible issues with leaks and I am not sure how these old ironhead transmissions will do with it as far as lubricating the bearings goes.
Does anyone know if using type "F" ATF is adequate enough for these old transmissions from personal experience?
I didn't want to use formula plus because Barnett says not to use it.
I found some info from another forum were someone talked to Barnett and they said that Formula Plus can be used but the problem is that it gums up causing the plates to stick together which makes it harder to find neutral. If there is nothing wrong with using it other than finding neutral will be harder then I don't see any problem with throwing it in.
My question is does the gumming up have a negative effect on the kevlar clutch/ transmission longevity? If not then I will just stick with formula plus.

I posted this question on the J&P Forum a while back:
http://community.jpcycles.com/forums...94.aspx#254294
I have been running the HD sport translube. Works great.
(until recently... I've been leaking motor oil into the primary so I just run motor oil for now until I get that fixed...which I am currently working on)
