Default Exhaust mods

Couldn't find anything about this from a quick search, but I'm wondering if anyone has just removed the mufflers and slipped on exhaust pipe over the header, weld, and taped it up? Is that the stupidist idea ever? I'm just trying to think of unique things to do to my Iron without breaking the bank.

Do a search for the Gronk Mod if you want better sound for cheap.

Agreed, I just did the Gronk mod this weekend and I am very impressed with how it sounds. For me it was totally free since I had all the tools handy, just cost me a few hours of time

When I got my Sporty it had exhaust pipe clamped on to the headers (no weld, no wrap). Looked ugly as all get out, and it was WAY too loud. I was embarassed to start it up in the morning for fear of waking the neighbors. I've since switched to stock mufflers, drilled out the baffles, and have some Thunder Torque inserts on order.

Those thunder Torgue inserts sound pretty awesome. What I think I may try the complete removal first, then the Gronk mod. if it's just not fitting the mold then I'll put those inserts on order.

Most likely will do away with the chrome heat shields and use black exhaust tape all the way down the header and maybe up about a quarter of the way on the mufflers, painting them with high temp flat black paint. Have yet to see that done... But I'm guessing it already has lol.

Thanks for all the great input!

I like straight drag pipes with the lollipop mod to get back low end torque.

I've been running with no baffles or anything for a couple weeks, and it sounds ok. It's definitely louder, and has a pretty nice bassy rumble at idle, but at higher RPMs I feel like it's just kinda flat sounding - loud, but harsh. The inserts should let me control the sound better, I hope. They should help the torque too, which I've noticed slightly lacking since I cut the baffles out.
