Default My speedo issue is driving me crazy!

Hello everbody names Chad and I have a 95 Sporster 883 with a 1200 kit . My bike runs great but when I. Bought it last month the speedo didn't work . I read a lot on the forums and my symptoms where pointing towards the sensor. The needle woudnt move and the trip odo said 1.2 and woudnt change to anything but a blank screen. My turn signals cancelled half the time so I figured senor... well that didn't make the speedo work so I replaced it with a new drag speicalties white face mini elec speedo. Its hooked up the needle moves when u turn on the bike and goes all the way up and back down but will not move after that. The calibration says to drive exaxctly one mile in calibrtion mode so it can record the pulses but the pulse meter never leaves zero. I switched the wires around in case they were backwards but no luck . Any help wud be appreciated.

Welcome from Canada's Capital!
I won't pretend to know what the problem is precisely, but a major complaint with the speedometer is a bad ground. LuxBlue and Lenster have had extensive experience with grounding issues. There's a couple of threads.
I've had it happen once to me, but after shutting down for a while, it never did it again. I'm now using a Dakota Digital. (Love it)
Again, not saying this is what's wrong. Just giving you a starting point.

My 95 1200 speedo finally died, switched to a $75 "Demoncycle".
HD dealer wanted $500 for a knew one. Sure do wish HD had stayed with the cable drive. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

hook up a voltmeter to the sensor wires. I have black, red and white. check for power black and red. then power white(sensor wire) and black and spin the rear wheel in gear you should get a pulse reading on the meter . sorry i do not know what color the stock wirers are. hope this helps.

I am having a similar problem. Today on the way home speedo fell from 70mph to 0. After exiting highway bike died at a stoplight while clutched and in 1st gear. Started back with on first try. After I got home I keyed it on and off a couple times and the check engine light came on and off twice within 10 seconds prior to starting. Then it idled real choppy for a bit them quit after I reved it couple times.
The bike is a 2011 '48, I just got a coil key relocation installed 2 weeks ago.

Well yesterday I bought a volt meter and tested the new speed sensor and was not getting any voltage from the wires. So I put the old onee back in and it worked just fine with the new speedo. So my problem was the factory speedo. Now I have a new workinng speedo but the turn signals don't cancel at all. I had to disconnect the wiring harness that ha the wires for the turn signals so that might have sumthing to do with it. Oh well at least I know how fast I'm goin ... thanks everybody for the help.
