Default Adjusting Pushrods

I'm trying to adjust the push rods per the stickies but I can't seem to get the transmission into 3rd gear. I watched the youtube video but am wondering if I'm missing something. I can get it into second and see the rods moving. Can I adjust it from 2nd gear or does it have to be in 4th???

The gear doesn't matter. The whole idea is to rotate the engine to position the cams/lifters. Usually it's easier to rotate the engine, via the rear wheel, when the tranny is in 4th gear.

Me ? ..... I do it while in neutral & work it via the kickstart lever. One of the advantages of owning a CH vs an electric start. (maybe the only advantage )

P.S. BTW, if you haven't already, pull your spark plugs first.

Do you have the spark plugs out? Must be out. Otherwise need to fiddle with the rear wheel, rock it back anf forth a little, between gear changes.

take plugs out as Mick instructed,....then put some pressure on shifter and move wheel back and forth it will shift. same to down shift. tranny has to rotate to line up for shifts.
