Default 69 XLH Shakedown

Took the 69 XLH out for the shakedown run and found a few minor problems like oil running down the back of the transmission. I stupidly forgot to put a gasket between the starter motor and the starter housing. Fixed that and took it out again. The only thing I don't like is the way it handles in corners. The steering seems heavy. I'm use to Norton and BMW handling, fast and nimble in the corners. I've already re-checked the steering head bearings, wheel alignment, the forks are newly rebuilt, and the tire pressure. All appear to be good. This is my first Sportster so I don't know if the way it handles is normal. Is this something I just have to get used to?

You're probably just spoiled to good handling bikes. If it feels like a wheelbarrow everything's most likely fine.

If you are wearing a Half Lid and the Motor Sounds Like a Rock Crusher at a Gravel Mill,
All Is Normal! Welcome to Ironhead Cruelness, I like Your Bike

and YES the bike will grow on you, my 82 Boxer BMW sits more than the 69 Sportster these days, go figure

I have never rode one w/ that style handlebar.
I can't imagine the geometry of that buckhorn type bar helping handling.
