Brass on the spring plate was in fact the culprit. The pieces wore a groove in the clutch basket, so that has to be replaced too. Barnett clutch pack going in later this week.

And yes, I should have done it myself. I was hoping to get it done faster by using this guy. Took three days to get the parts ordered, wait on them to arrive for the next three days, then whatever it takes to get it put in. In the future I will stick to DIY, at home maintenance. Believe me... I was ready to order the clutch pack when I took it in. Why it took three days for him to get to that point, I'll never know.

What clutch pack did the indy go with? This is going to be so much better, you will be a happy camper.

The bad thing is that if you had done it yourself, you could have (with jewelers files) very carefully removed any raised burs on the basket and hub splines like I did, and you could most likely have salvaged it. I let mine go for a long time because back then nobody had the easy answer for me, so the damage was extensive, although you can't tell now.

Glad to hear it wasn't a busted primary cover!

Glad we could help you out, man. Those spring plates suck because you never know when they're gonna go. I've seen 'em go within a couple of years. Mine lasted about 6 years. You'll be much happier with your new setup!

Appreciate everyone's feedback... I'll be a happy camper as soon as I can throw my leg over. Barnett clutch pack going in - 9 Kevlar friction plates. The worst thing about all this is that about a year ago I had the entire bike torn apart to work on the transmission. I thought about replacing the clutch then, but then decided not too... Hindsight = 20/20
