Restoration of old xl's
I am restoring a 1958 xlh.
Anyone know where to access production details?
I want to repaint to the original specs. I have found the available colors, but unsure of the color that mine came out of the factory with....
I amalso curious of the total production volume of the 1958 sportsters.

First, WELCOME to the Forum... back up when you get a chance and give us an intro!
Second, this is a project that many will help with, but many others will want to follow. I'd encourage you to get some photos NOW so we can see the evolution of your restoration.
Sounds exciting... again, welcome!

This is a good site for resources. You've probably got the oldest Sportster here, but there's still lots of guys that know their way around these things.
Where in Canada are you?

Thanks forthe input and the welcome!
I will check those sites, I believe I have been to them already ,but always worth another look.
Sportterrific, I am in Toronto, also.
When I can figure out how to put up am image , Iwill be happy to...
The bike is probably 95% Plus original. Was repainted aboout 6 years ago, before I got it, and the paint is okay, but I want to get it back to original.
Just needs exhaust and muffler set and will be ready for the road. Then when I get more time Iexpect to tear down completely and replace the wire harness ( kinda brittle) and possibly powdercoat the frame.
Thanks again!

Welcome! I look forward to following your progress as well. Great to see more Ironheads here too, especially one as vintage as yours.

I found a 57 for ya
as far as paint codes I don't think there is any way of telling with the vin like a car , do you have any parts that are original? if so some paint stores have a thing called "the prophet" which can scan the paint and give the correct paint code for duplication
