Default 1990 4sp oil pump

Wondering if anyone has upgraded their oil pumps. We have a 1990 xl that has been modified to an 89ci S&S stroker. Would like to have better flow and scavaging.

Any thoughts would be appreciated,
Thanks, Kirk

I routed the oil from the relief valve in the filter housing directly back to the oil tank on mine, now it no longer dump it into the cam chest.
Never seen it be done before so I will take credit for that
Have been runnin' it like this for years without issues.

Have a pic in post 14 in this tread:

I put in an, 07 buell oil pump(better scavaging) and drive gear.
I believe the 07 sportster oil pump is the same as the Buell, but comes with the correct fittings.
you will also have to tap a 1/8"NPT hole for a 90*fitting into the bottom of the case.

I can snap a pic. of mine when I get home from work today.
.
Seems to be working well.

90Sportster, thanks for the reply. Do you know the part number for oil pump and drive gear? I have #26357-02B for pump & #26391-06 for drive gear. Yes if you take picture of your setup that would be awesome.

NorseXL, I will take a look at that thread, thank you.

The bronze drive gear I purchased from Hammer Performance. Says fitment is for '91+ but also works for the '90.

I will have to look up the part # when I get home from work.
Purchased from New Castle HD online.

a 4 speed crank uses the same oil pump drive gear as a 5 speed crank? Or does that only apply to a 1990 as I think that was a transition year for the cranks?

Can somebody confirm if this only is for 1990 models as all my books show that it should only work on 1991 and up 5 speed models so wondering what year the change really happened.

It's the same part number back to 1988. 86-87 use the splined shaft.
