Default Clutch Adjustment Help.....

I put my new apes on and did the wires, T/I cables, brake line, clutch cable. I misadjusted the clutch and am trying to readjustit. I have followed the steps in the book but the cluch won't release. frustating to say the least. I stopped for a while and thought about it and figured that maybe because i haven't replaced the oil in the primary that could be the reason. Didn't want to button it all up before knowing. Can anyone tell me if this is the problem for the clutch not releasing?

Are you saying the bike won't move in gear when you push it with the clutch in? If so, assuming the clutch is adjusted properly, you need the clutch disks to be wetted with oil if it's been sitting for awhile. Try putting in the primary fluid then starting the bike IN NEUTRAL. Pull the clutch in and wait about 10 seconds then shift into first with your front wheel up against a wall in case it lurches. If adjusted correctly you will be able to move the bike around with the clutch in and in gear.

Did you adjust anything in the primary? Mainly the clutch pre load? Do what LuxBlue suggested. If that doesn't work, Loosen the cable all the way up, adjust the clutch preload...turn the adjusting screw counterclockwise until you feel a slight resistence, then turn it back clockwise 1/4 turn and reinstall the nut and spring. Then adjust your clutch cable. I adjsut mine so I have the width of a quarter between the clutch cable ferrel and the grip housing when pulling gently on the cable itself away from the housing.

That si exactly what I'm saying. The bike has been sitting and the prmary oil was drained to remove the old cable and sat waiting to get the new cables made. So i was right the oil nedds to be filled and the clutch plates need to be wet for them to work. I will give this a try. thanks....
