Default Quit on road

I just had a shiftdrum replaced by a local shop. On the way home the bike seemed to stall out 2-3 times, a (30 mile ride) but picked right back up after a 1/2 second.
I parked it and left it overnight, the next day went to start it and it fired right up, i took off and in about 500 ft it started acting like it lost spark in on cylinder,
I got it back home, running, with no blinkers,flashers,speedo,tach..
Now it is stone dead, i checked the battery and the connections are tight also it shows 12.3 on the meter
Help

The 1994 Wiring Harness and Battery are GROUNDED together & to the frame/engine at the LEFT UPPER REAR MOTOR MOUNT...

On the 2003 (likely 2001 as well) the Battery grounds on the RIGHT UPPER REAR MOTOR MOUNT...

That's where I would start looking...

Check your manual regarding replacing the battery cables (to see the location specified)...

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on Voltages & Grounds:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...place_to_start

The Battery Positive goes directly to the Starter solenoid (using the battery cable) and is then fed from the solenoid thru the MAIN CIRCUIT BREAKER to the Keyswitch (on the RED Wire)...

That's where I would look next...

Grounds could be the issue.
Not charging could be another possibility.
12.3 key on or key off?
If off, battery is more than 50% discharged.
Charge battery, fire it up and then measure voltage at 2K + RPM

You didn't mention it, but I hope you still checked your cables & grounds for corrosion, cracking, breaks and tightness... A prime opportunity when replacing your battery...

But is the new one charging properly? If not, it will suffer the fate of the old battery.

What should my voltage be on the battery if it is charging correctly?
