Just got told by a friend who sells Harleys: EPA regulations and Screaming Eagle...
He is the dealer here in Iowa and he told me that Harley is going to cooperate with the new epa regs in that all the screaming eagle stuff that is being made now is it. No more after this year. Not going to be in the next catalog.
The context of the conversation was about whether I was going to get some screaming eagle pipes for my 05 custom 1200.
Anyone else hear of this?

Yes last week at the HOG meeting, dealer rep said that the "off road" Screaming Eagle pipes were discontinued.

we have all the riders with wide open pipes that think it is their right in life to blast their exhaust all the time for the crack down. my pipes are prolly in the middle as far as loud goes. i am carful not to blast some poor guy in his car day dreaming as he drives along.
change is A comming.
down the road you will tell people how you used to be able to mod your bike and have good sounding pipes.

It is true. They aren't making them anymore starting in May. Get 'em while they're hot!
Can't blame them really, this will improve thier public image and keep the feds off thier back. HD has always been a good company in a lot of ways, as far as working for and working with goes. That's why they've been around for so long.

No big deal....
The MoCo has their reasons for doing it.
There's better pipes available from the aftermarket vendors anyhow, don't sweat it.

I'm glad I was able to get a set of the SE II slash downs for my '05. As far as I know, they are the quietest of the performance pipes. That makes them a distinct loss since anything else you buy is going to be louder. Too bad.

I never thought of my SEII's as "quiet" in any sense. They weren't obnoxioius, but they definately weren't quiet. The Thunderheader seemed a little quiter, and the Supertrapp is definately quieter.
I believe I remember a rumor that the SEII's were actually made by V&H for HD, so maybe something will come out of that.

The tuneable supertrapp could no doubt be setup quieter. As to the Thunderheader, Bassani, and a few others I've forgotten, I've e-mailed manufacturers looking for other performance pipe options. I let them know I was running SEIIs. I either was told their pipes were louder, or they wouldn't even respond since I told them I didn't want more noise, just more horsepower.

EPA Regs
As I understand it, according to AIM, is that any modification made to any motorcycle after 1979 that alters the EPA guidelines or changes the EPA emissions can be deemed illegal and fined up to $10,000 per day the bike is on the road. Might want to check some other sources because I am never the last word on anything. Jus ask my wife.
