Default Harley VIN Decoder

Mostly I just ride my 1998 1200cc XL, add chrome gizmos, pipes, etc. (More into riding than wrenching.)

But ya'll got me wondering exactly what the details are regarding the bike type, etc. I can tell by looking at the decal on the fork it's a Type XL/2, XLH 883, XLH 1200. I looked up the cryptic Harley VIN Decoding web pages, but still had trouble. Oh, and the Title says... 1998 HD X88. X88????? And what does XL/2 mean?

Anywho, there needs to be a software program where all you have to do is enter the VIN and all the poop is listed.

If anyone wants to help a brother outm my VIN is: 1HD4CAM10WY220734

Thanks in advance,

JJ

Great.....!

Thanks bro!

Hmmmmm...Ermmmm There appears to be a conflict between the 4 (Middle Weight Designation -351 to 900cc) cos the actual displacement is 1200cc. I guess such conflicts are common eh? Or is it because the 1200 is a bored out 900? Sorry for being so mechanically declined.

Also, knowing this (above), how (on this list) would the bike be describe (in a nutshell)? An XL883 1200? Or what?

Thanks again,

JJ

JJ-
Did you buy it used? According to the VIN, the bike started life as a XLH 883 Standard, and must have had a 1200 kit added at some point, which is common.

Yes, used.
Whoa..... Maybe...Crap, I have no idea. The puppy is tight son, it kicks ass. Are you suggesting it was bumped up to a 1200? I have the original owner's name and number (local), so I can find out. Dang. Hey, I just cleaned it up...."Lookin' Gooooood" (If I must say myself)....(Pics to follow soon...). JJ

There are 2 indicators in your VIN pointing towards it being an 883. I don't recall any discussion around here about inaccurate VIN's, but anything's possible. Besides, there's nothing wrong with a bumped up motor. Depending on what parts were used, its probably just as good, if not better, than a factory 1200.
