Default How to lace a 40 spoke wheel?

I just got a new 21" rim and a set of spokes fer my 76. I will be using the stock spool and the rim is advertised to lace just like the stock setup. Anyone know of a site with a how to fer this? I can see myself getting very frustrated without some help. Thanks!

If you've got a Factory Repair Manual for your bike, you will find all the info on how to lace your front wheel in Chapter "Wheels" page 2-12.

Be sure to follow the directions for your year front hub which is 1973 and later if your front hub is a Disc hub.

If your running the earlier drum, the info is on page 2-15.

I've laced and trued several wheels and they're not hard to do, but you must follow the instructions for the placement of the Short and Long spokes and the required number of spoke 'cross over'. If you have your 19" front wheel intact, use it as a referance.

After you get it laced and the hub centered in the wheel, your going to need some type of truing stand. Trueing will take some time to get right if you've never done it before.

If you have a problem or no truing stand, then you can take to your local shop and let them true it for you. You will have saved some money by lacing it yourself....so long as you laced it correctly to begin with.
