Default Almost there, tanks mounted ...

More lessons learned about this paint... Dupli-Color.. my oil tank was my guinea pig... and it was FUBAR... so I threw it in the solvent tank and wa-la... all paint was stripped in 5 minutes... so I will have to be real careful until I get a nice coat of wax on it.. and carry a rag.. the directions say to wipe gas off immediately... I have also found another paint, two part urethane enamel that won't break the bank.. made by Kirker, this stuff is pretty good according to my paint guy, I only wished he didn't live 60 miles away.. ..http://www.smartshoppersinc.com/Kirk...urethanes.html

You can use these 4 0z House of Color paints for the airbrush work or other color in your paint job and clear coat with Kirker..

http://www.smartshoppersinc.com/Hous...Materials.html

Then there was a coil mounting issue.. isn't it always something else? So I scrounge through a pile of motorcycle junk and find a mounting plate off a '65 Honda CB450.. looks like it will work for me... paint it and throw it on the bike.. now the petcock and coil are both happy.

Here are pics of the progress, just get the front GMA brake re-aligned, hook up the oil lines, grease and lube tack, and clutch lines mount the rear fender and tail light, throw the front fender on, hook up the exhaust pipes... oil and gas... and 10 months of work finally comes together... now if I could only find my new (used) oil tank cap.. plus there is an issue of the air cleaner hitting the tank and I will have to do a little crescent cut to get that to fit, oh yeah slide the battery back in.. .. here are some more pictures..

no wax for 60 days on this paint, it is still gassing out...

also notice my center stand is on 3/4" pieces of wood to get the tire off the floor.. I like having it just to work on the bike, I just wish it was a little taller.. I have had no problem getting it up on the stand.. I was wondering how many of you that are having problems getting it up on the stand can pick your bike up if it falls over?....

It's looking good.

You need to get it together by mid-August for the Tenino Swap Meet and show, halfway between Oregon and Seattle.

I actually know a little trick for getting the bikes on the center stand, but wasn't going to spout off about it until I got mine together and actually put one on the center stand for the first time in *** years.

Here is what I have.... if you want to mount a set of 3 1/2 gal. tanks there will be some things you need to know...

The carb cleaner will need a relief cut on the top so it won't hit the tank.

The bottom mounts on the tank have to be cut off or they will hit the front rocker box.

Mounting the coil might fit between the tanks just about the rocker box, I mounted mine right under the petcock and if you use a head mount that is set up for the coil, it will interfer with the petcock.. if you can get a set of later style tanks, the petcock is a little more to the rear of the tank.

The front mount has to be raised 1 and 1/2"-5/8" the lower hole is too low.. then you have to space the center between the flat stock riser you made with 3/8' holes drilled in them about 1 1/2" plus a washer then I used two 1/2 spacers or large nuts on the outside to get the spacing just right.

Then the center panel has to have the two ends cut back just right to tuck under the front spacing bolt... use stainless steel if you can as these guys will rust... Ace Hardware has all the bolts and spacers.. you can also go with a leather tank panel which I feel is a little easier on the paint over time.

or you can by one of these ... you will still need to make the flat stock risers they are about 2 1/4" long by 3/4" wide with holes drilled 1 9/16" center to center.
