Didja buy that 68 sporty?
I have owned 2 1960's sportsters. In 68 you could get electric start (I think 67 was the first year it was offered). Kicking the thing when I was 20 years old is way different than at 52. I love my 60 xlch but the kick only model is not for the timid. It'll kick back like a mule and at times fail to engage the starter gear,offering no resistance when you are expecting all that compression. Result: hyperextended knee, and pain that will bring tears to your eyes. All in all, you should really have a true soft spot for the old ironheads if you are going to put up with their obstinate nature. Tinkering with it is a way of life. Reward is the growl and torque the old gal has when running right.
