It has a modified sportster engine. Therefore I'd consider it a harley... If you put a buell engine in a sportster frame, it would be considered by almost everyone to be a 'harley'...

Hard question for me... I like the Buells, but although they share a couple of components, I figure if they have a different research & development team, different design team, and different factory that they would not be considered a Harley. I also didn't consider Jaguar a Ford because they kept a lot of the Jaguar facilities and R&D open separate from the Ford plants. I don't think its a detriment to Buell.

What makes a Harley a Harley? The engine? The frame? Medallions? If you add a bunch of after market parts is it still a Harley? Who knows where the demarcation line is?

If you have 256 colors in your color wheel, and you are discussing "reds" with someone who only has 12, "Persimmon Red" is just "red". Don't even bother trying to explain it to them.....

I'm always disappointed when I ask someone what they ride when I see them wearing a Harley shirt, and they say, "I just got the shirt".

Owning a Buell made it alright (for me) to wear Harley shirts. I figure the years I made payments to HD finance makes it OK. I'd never wear one before, out of principle.
