Default Coughing on low fuel light

Any one noticed that the XR coughs when opening up the throttle hard with fuel light on.

Is this a normal Harley thing ?

Perhaps the fuel intake is at the front of the tank.

How much fuel is in the tank? Is the light really telling you that it is low? Perhaps under hard acceleration the fuel sloshes rearward enough that the pick up is uncovered? If the fuel light comes on and there is still 1/2 tank, then I would be thinking ECM or something along that line.

haven't tried that yet...

but I noticed when going up a steep hill with low fuel, the fuel light comes on. as soon as you go straight, it goes out. So yes I think the pickup is more towards the front of the tank.

what I really wonder about is the temperature light...it's not even mentioned in the manual....

Mine did the same when accelerating hard from a roundabout & got the light on she coughed slightly and didnt pull as well I then pulled into the petro; station & put 13.65 litres in so in my opinion she was running out of petrol that was my first fill up which did 110 to the light then about 125 when filled up yet other day managed over 125 miles & no light at all to fill up so she getting better mpg the more miles Im putting on.

If you managed to get 13.65 Liters in you were very nearly dry, when my fuel light comes on i can only get 11 Liters in to full.
I always fill up as soon as the fuel light comes on, so i aint had the coughing. If its missing i would say you are very close to empty.
Just got back from a trip and at 80mph i am getting 52mpg(UK) light comes on at around 120mls and it takes 10.5 Liters to fill up.

My XR coughs sometime in the first 3-5 minutes from starting. No matter if the engine is hot or cold. I am close to 2500k and it's giving me a lot of fun.
XR makes from 15 to 21 km/liter . Did not drive it fast yet. My only complaint are vibrations under 3000. Over 4000 is like beeing on a last generation train. I start loving this machine after 20 days of doubts.
The nice thing is that driving it you have the impression to ride a 180 kg bike, not 260kg. When do you think I should go for synthetic oil??
