Default 1967 xlch generator

Well , tried polarizing generator with a batter. No output from generator. Decided to take generator out and take a look. Dirty inside, wires look ok, field coils have continuity. Decided to sand brushes lightly to remove small amount of surface gunk and sprayed with electrical cleaner. Took some fine sandpaper and lightly sanded the copper armature where brushes spin because it was black. I figured there might be some resistance there and may not be making a good contact. I am in process of putting back together. I'll keep ya posted. Maybe with good brush contacy I can polarize this generator and get some output . MAYBE !

Brushes must move freely in the holder. Springs must provide even and constant pressure. Brushes must be greater than 1/2" longest side.

Undercut mica insulation between commutator segments approx .025" with a thinned down hacksaw blade; slots must be square bottomed. Good pic of more details of this in the 79 to 85 FM.

Ditto on the 57 - 69 FM.

Bad armature? Growler test will isolate that - an auto electric shop should be able to do that. Bad regulator?
