Air cleaner upgrade
04 1200 XLC, I want to upgrade the stock air cleaner with a K&N filter. What all do I need? Can I keep the stock cover? If not, What are the common replacement assemblies/covers?
I'd like to keep it around 150 clams.
Also, am I gonna need to rejet the CV?
I'm new at this and wanna do it all myself.

i replaced my stock aircleaner with a k&n and used the stock ham can it works fine as far as the rejet goes i had to but i also added an exhaust at the same time so i cant really say whether it was the air cleaner or the exhaust that did it

Do you want to keep the ham-can shape or not? If you are OK going round or tear then there's lots of choice out there, most of them will be fine for a stage-1. Popular choice is the Harlen Ness Big Sucker. Get something that suits your style and budget and, personally, I wouldn't get hung up on K&N, they are little better for stage 1 than other filters out there but I'd suggest avoiding the foam rubber type.
Have you also swapped out or modded the exhaust? If so then you will need to rejet. Otherwise with just the A/C swap you might get away with just an extra 1/4-1/2 outward turn on the idle mix screw - there's stickies here to help further.

Started with the Screamin Eagle High Flow and V&H Pipes Stage 1.. K&N has a replacement for the SE Filter and works better than the SE giving more flow.. Was actually surprised at the difference I have to asume is less resistant giving more density into the Intake .. And Yes can use the stock Ham Can on either one of these options..

If you want to stick with the stock cleaner cover then fine, just replace the filter with a K&N. A re-jet will probably not be necessary unless you also change the exhaust.

I've use 2 different setups using the K&N air filter. The first is using the K&N replacement for the stock AC housing, I opened up the backing plate, $50. My current setup is a Hurricane AC from NRHS, it uses the stock cover, their backing plate, Drag Specialties breather and a larger K&N filter. It was around $250.

the hurricane is a great setup for the ham can, doherty powerpacc prolly best round setup, dont bother with overpriced breathers just use the horseshoe, whatever you do remove the slime-blowbye going inti the aircleaner

I didn't mention it, but I did change out the stock mufflers with a set of rush slippies with 2 inch baffles. I wasn't sure about rejetting/adjusting air fuel mixture screw. My sporty doesn't seem to be running bad or anything...so how do I know if I need to adjust anything?
I'm definately planning an A/C upgrade so maybe I need to look into rejetting or adjusting the air fuel mixture.

Do a search on how to read plugs. You'll find plenty of info here on the forum.
