more torque ?
Have a basic stock 04 LX 1200 with only mods are low rest K&N filter and exhaust and jet kit. up one size from stock. i noticed improvment but am looking for more bottom end yet. anyone have comments on say an andrews N3 or other bottom end high lift cam. something that give great pull off idle to 4500 or so RPM. other tricks welcome. i am new to the evo sporty last summer. always had iron heads and shovel BT. thanks, Phil

bigger cams will move power higher in rpm band. put 883 heads and youll get lower rpm torque but less overall power.
how about leave it alone and change sprockets out

Cams are always for more power at high rpms. Go with sprockets! Matt

The SE .497 cams are listed to pull from 2,000-6,000rpm. Lager and I both use them. They have about as wide of a range in RPMs as anything. Mine pulls like a tank from 2,000. With the 883 heads you won't get as much top end power though. Still, I gotta back off the throttle when passing cages to keep away from the rev limiter. I limit myself to 110mph.

ed is correct with the 497's. pull hard and power is everywhere but i converted to 1250 and added cams at same time so i cant say the difference of cams alone.

ok , thanks for the info fellows. i just read an article from a fellow who put in a N2V2 andrews in 1200. and said it pulled real hard in the bottom but did not notice anything more for power much after 4K RPM. he said it sure helped even at crusing speed for passing or with two up ride . he could keep it in 5th gear more offen vs down shift to make power. more of a lugger with torque way up than stock grind. said that he thought that was the best cam for bottom end on the market. i think this was written back a few yrs so may be others as good. i may do the sproket trick but i think this engine is capible to make way more power on bottom ( and top)with a little better breathing. higher lift and stay away from overlap/duration should make power in the lower RPM range.
i am not all that familure to the evo sporty ..yet so just wondered what you guys experienced. my old 70 iron head +p cams and some porting and 10:1 pistons made that baby a torque monster for a basic stock iron head. also noticed the smaller 36mm vs 38 or 40 carb worked best on it. thanks for input and if any others have tryed any other ideas or combos let me know. may be a winter project comeing up if i decide to do a little engine work. thanks, Phil
