Default Anniversary editions (?)

I have a 2003 R series bike and I thought that the 100yr Anniversary badges on the engine, fender, and handlebar clamp would give it an extra 5.00 in resale value.

However, if HD has a 105 year edition, does this mean there will be a 110, 115, 120 etc. editions in the future? How about when they do a 106, 107, 108 year, etc as well. A rare model in the future might be one that is NOT an anniversary edition! Kinda reverses the situation huh?

What is the purpose of this?

To SELL more more motorcycles .....

I think if they had made the 100 year an option, it might have more value. Yes 100 years is impressive for any company. But every five years seems a bit much.

They've been putting out at least some anniversary editions every 5 years since maybe the 50th or 55th anni I believe...

The 100th anniversary edition has to be the biggest joke of them all, since EVERY SINGLE BIKE PRODUCED some 300,000 or so, were "anniversary editions" limited only by production.

Yes, I see no reason why they won't continue the trend of producing anni models.

Why wasn't mine a special edition because it was a 2005, which is divisible by their magic number of "5"?!

I was talking with my Indy the other day and he has a customer that has a 100th anniversary Sport that he went down on at very slow speed. Messed up the forks, bars pedals, gas tank. The customer wanted an exact replacement for the tank. Harley told my indy that it would cost something like $1000 and he would first have to pay for the new tank and ship the damaged tank to them before they would ship out the new tank. He was told that they do this to control the anniversary editions. The client, by the way, had the damaged tank repaired.

Is this screwed up, or what?

Yes, it's true, I wrecked my 2003 also. Those item are controlled by HD.
You have to turn in your parts but you can do it AFTER the get the
new ones.

BUT, it does not stop you from buying the parts off of ebay.

I saved a ton getting my fenders of ebay. My tank was fine.

They may not be worth any more than a 2002 or 2004 BUT they cost
more to keep stock....

Trivia, HD was a year late with the 50th, the 1954 models had the badges.
