Default key fob battery

Has anybody had to replace this yet? Mine is getting tired (2 1/2 years). If I pop it open and replace the battery, will I have to reprogram anything on the security system?

As far as i know all the key fob does is send out a signal at a certain frequency which is set into it when you hit the button, and whether or not it has a battery in it shouldn't affect the alarm system at all.

alarm system? i thought they just had immobilizer. anyway, imobilizer uses a small chip in key and there is a pickup coil near ignition switch. immobilizers dont need battery

What the hell is a "key fob" and what the hell does that have to do with sportsters? Next thing I know you guys are gonna tell me that it'll honk your horn and flash your lights when you're walking out of Starbucks and can't remember where you parked

I change both of mine each year. Changing the battery has no affect. I make sure I change it with the alarm off. If the alarm is on and the battery in the bob goes dead when you are out I have heard the security system goes into a defensive mode requiring you to enter a personal code through the turn signal switches. It was on the video I got with the bike.
