cheap cafe' seat
If you are looking for a cheap seat, here is a neat one. It is a Ducati SS style seat from Vintage Cosmo, and I ordered the primed version ($99.99) but they were out, so sent the red one which is normally $10 more. It is going on my '68 Yamaha YR2, but I got a pic of it on my Sportster to see how well it would fit. It doesn't fit with the tank very well, but nothing really does the way the tank and frames are on these bikes. It looks close to the seat on the Taste-Concept Sportster. Most of the seats Vintage Cosmo sells are way too narrow for an XL, but the Duc one just fits, so probably wouldn't work on a '04 and up. Really not a bad seat for the money, and wouldn't be too hard too install.

I'll have to get a better pic on the XL, but here's the bike it's going on.

That seat looks great on either bike, but looks perfect for the Yamaha!
I glanced quick at the gas tank and thought of an old 2 cylinder Suzuki 125 Stinger that a friend used to have.
Is it just sitting on the Sportster?
I'm guessing you'd have to come up with some mounting brackets?
Comfortable?
Good find!

Yep, it's just sitting on the Sportster, and would need a simple base and some brackets made. It fits the Yamaha very nicely. It looks like it was made for it. That bike will be a fun project, and cheap also!

That is a 1968 YR2 350cc two-stroke twin, basically the pre-RD350. I bought a complete 1968 YR2 and an incomplete 1967 YR1, so it is going to be a mix of the two. The bike is older than me, but is something I might have bought if I'd been around back then. I spent $250 for both bikes, so hope to have it done for about $1000 or so total.

That Yamaha looks like a cool project. I have an old '69 Honda CL350 cafe' racer (you've probably seen the pic of it before) with a seat that looks very similar to the Parilla 175 seat that Vintage Cosmo sells. Post some pics of that Yamaha when you get it built! (Do you have a GYT kit for it ?)

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

You gotta get the Honda on the road again!
I'll post pics when I make some progress, but just collecting parts right now until I get my XT500 done. I don't know if they made GYT parts for the 350. Most of what I've seen is for the 80-125cc bikes.
BTW, here's a neat '68 350 ad.
