Default starter /gen repairs.

I see lots of you do your own rebuild . So a tip to help.AS most of you do not have a lathe to turn the armature I will tell you how the easy way. First take a drill put it in a vice then the armature in drill the brass end to drill. then get a strip of sand paper (fine) that will just fit the brass end OR a small flat file and turn drill on and polish the end . AFTER clean it good and break a fine hacksaw blade and clean out the groves or cut a new ones not deep but enough so you have a small one to help from a short between them and the brushes will make a good contact.IF you do not clean the groves the brass dust will short enough so the starter will not spin fast or flat spot. THE end has to be shiney no burnt or black spots. AND lots of them will have a ridge where the brush does not fit. THE end has to be flat no ridge. so take the ridge off so you have a smothe end .then reclean and new brushes and you are good to go with new end bushings and a small amount of lube on the ends. This has worked for me on lots of gens and starters. be sure the file lays flat and covers the comp brass end.or the sand paper strip . Good luck hope this will help some one. and has to be cleaned inside good. cu gar
