Default tire only lasted 21 years

I got a new front tire today took it in to have it changed he looked at it and started laughing and ask if it was a joke. I've known him for 20 years he said they quit making that brand of tire 21 years ago. No wonder my kid bitched at me when I passed him doing about 80 last summer.I knew it had some cracks and kinda worn but hay road ok. sucks to get old and can't rember when the last time I got a tire. I'm getting it back together maby running next week.

Well you couild have done like Burt Munro in the Fastest Indian movie and filled the cracks in the tire with boot polish and kept on riding.

my front tire was an iriquois (spl?, like the indian) when was the last time they made those

rode it for a year then got one that wasn't rock hard.

put a few hundred miles on the 50-60 year old tires on my flatty till the dry rotted cords let go

Sounds like name Owen used. But he was laughing so I didn't catch it. I would have tried hopper's idea but my son kind of pressed the issue.

This little bit of practical reality makes the arguements and bluster about name brand tires Vs discount tires seem kinda lame.
Just be mindful of the state of your tires...and ride accordingly.

I won't last as long as the tire so the kid will have to buy the next one. I should have made him buy this one what was I thinking.
