Default Dunlop D401 or K591?

Can anyone explain the difference between Dunlop's D401 tire and the K591 tire? Dunlop offers the 100/90x19 in both of those, so what's the difference between the two? Is there an advantage of one over the other?

Looking to replace my front tire and now I have another decision to make, new bikes from the factory come with the D401. The only bike I could find on the showroom floor with a K591 was the rear tire on the Softail Deuce.

Also the parts guys told me that the D401's were being discontinued anyone else heard this?

I haven't heard that the d401 are being discontinued. I know Goodyear which ownes Dunlop has been on strike for quite a while, and tires are getting harder to get. I'm putting the d401' s on my bike. if you go to the Dunlop motorcycle web sight it will break all the tires down for you.

401's r the standard cruiser tires, 402's r the heavy duty cruiser tires, 591's r the sport-touring tires, which were repaced by the 501's... HD uses the 591's on the newer bikes because its the only tire made in the 70 series... i guess when dunlop discontinued the 591 to replace it with the 501, they sold the 591 to HD to use as their "SE" tire...

The D401 is H-rated (speeds up to 130 mph) and the K591 is V-rated (up to 149 mph).

Expect much less milage from the K591, it is HD Sport tire so it is a softer tire.

I got 16,000 miles on the stock rear D401, I have 8,000 on the rear k591 and it very worn down. I only expect to get another 2,000 out of it.

I still have the stock D401 on the front with 24,000 miles though it needs to be replaced now.
