Default Gear charts for a Sportster

I posted a gear chart for a Sportster. It will work for any car or motorcycle up thru a 6 speed. The gear ratios "I think" are correct based on the numbers in my owners manual. I did not take a gearbox apart to count teeth on the gears to verify. The numbers in the yellow cells can be changed to anything you wish. Have fun.

Excellent piece of Excel magic! This is a great way to model potential driveline changes.

Interesting. It is ratio'd for a 1200 US.

I have been looking at this to modify it for ('05) 883 US gearing. I changed the primary ratio to 57/34 and the "Small Gear" from 29 to 28.

Are there other changes needed?

My manual expresses the overall gear rations differently... I haven't yet figured out how to correlate them with your ratios.

Overall Gear Ratios
Gear -- 883 US ---1200 US
1 -----10.944 ---- 9.454
2 ----- 7.524 ---- 6.5
3 ----- 5.834 ---- 5.04
4 ----- 4.806 ---- 4.152
5 ----- 4.071 ---- 3.517

Hints?

Gary

The manual is showing the overall ratio which is the gear ratio x primary ratio x final ratio or for fifth gear: 1.0 x (57/34) x (68/28) = 4.071
