Default My 2005 Daytona trip

Bikeweek was fun. Me and a couple buddies, one from Houston, and one from Dallas made the trip there in two days, we didnt want to push it, just enjoy the ride. The trip was 8 days total, we left on a Saturday and got back the next Saturday. With four days of traveling, that left 4 days in and around Daytona. It was a blast.

Went to the beach one day, got some pics. Met Dwardy at Pub44 another day, the food was excellent, although the Dr. Pepper was flat. Which is another point, the farther I got from Texas, the harder it was to find Dr. Pepper in a resturaunt, and when I did find it the menu said it was "NEW". Different strokes for different folks I guess. We spent some time at all the major areas, although I didnt get to test ride any bikes. I kind of wanted to do that, but didnt care enough to acutally make it to the bikes =)

I didnt get as many pics as I would have liked, and even if you use sunscreen, it would be worth your time to reapply it later in the afternoon =). My new mustang seat held up great! I did 500+ miles for 2 days going and comming back and my rear never ached. Had to reposition a bit to wake it up, but it never complained. It was awesome. We left Friday and were informed that is when things really start gearing up. We'll try and plan our trip next time where we can stay through the second weekend.

Here are some of the pics, enjoy, and If i think of anything else, i'll update this thread.

Off we go!

Here is a couple at the USS Alabama in Mobile, Alabama.

Here are a few sweet shots of our bikes on the beach.

Oh what fun!

The man, the legend, Arlen Ness.

back home in Texas

I know, I know, you want to know where the bikeweek pics are =) I only put those on my webserver late last night to show some friends and family pics of me on the trip. I'll post a few others tonight when I get home. I didnt get as many pics as I would have hoped..being there 4 days and all, I didnt bring my camera, and relied on a buddies, so I was at his picture taking mercy. I was like "oooo, get the camera out, oooo get the camera out" =)

I'll post some main st pics, wet t-shirt pics, bike pics and famous people pics later.

Looks and sounds like a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing the pics with us, and oh, I like the saddlebags you have on your ride.

thanks, I really lucked out with them. It's an old set my dad had on his soft tail. I needed a pair, and he had a pair, I like em better than anything I could have bought.

I love the slant, and the way they hang. I also like the way the top lays over the bag, It is stuffed in the beach picture so it's not laying down like it does normally, but my gallery pics show it a tad better.

This has to be my favorite custom of all time. It was called "Famine" and had a real organic feel to it. The shifter, grips and foot pegs are wood and some of the metal parts have a stitched leather look to it, as well as just an unfinished look to the frame. It used a replica flathead(i believe) engine.

Very cool pics Gearhead, thanks for sharing. And it was very nice of guys to let that BT fella tag along with you.

Looks like a Knucklehead on that custom. I think Flatheads had the plug straight into the middle of the head. Could be wrong though. But from that first shot it looks like you can just make out the two "knobs" on each cover that denote a Knuck.

That was my first thought, that it was a knuclehead, and they guy did tell me when i spoke to him, but have since forgotten. I did some research on the net, and still was not conclusive. I thought the fins on the top(rocker box?) was a good sign it was a flathead, but I am fairly uneducated in these things. Looking at the first picture though, I think you may be right.
