76 ironhead oil leak and chain oiler
Hey guysI got mike bike running just have a few problems the oil line that comes from the bottom of the oil bag is leaking can i change that with the engine in the bike??do i have to drop the exhaust and the foot peg??? and how do i block off the chain oiler??

My 74's chain oiler had an adjustment bolt that I just closed off....I guess it was an adjustment bolt...I closed it and it and oil stopped coming out

+1 on that. I did the same on mine. No reason for it. I just use wd-40 on my chain.
And the oil line on the bottom of the oil tank is the feed line, it runs to the oil pump and out of all three oil lines that one is the absolute easiest to change. No need to remove anything to change it. You should be able to squirm it around enough to get one in without having to remove anything.

found it but i also found the over flow the smallest oil line of the cap had a split in it causeing some puddles when i shut her off where does that oil line go? is it hard to get at?

You Dont Have An Over Flow, You Have A Feed Line, Vent Line, And Return Line. All Should Be Working Well With Free Flow. My Chain Oiler Is Blocked Off, No Need For It Today With Clinging Chain Lubes, They Usually Have Paraffin In Them That Will Stay On Even At Higher Speeds.

yeah the vent line was split I think this is where the oil was coming from is it hard to get at the vent line?? it disappears behind the case??

The vent line connects to a pipe fitting in back of the cam gear casing, behind the rear cylinder, down to the right, in behind the timing cover. Can be a biatch to get to but you dont need to pull the engine or cam cover. Depending on what model bike you got, you might have to move the electric starter, exhaust pipe or oil tank. No big deal.
You should replace all your oil lines.
If one or two have split, the hoses are old and the others will be ready to let go any time, which could trash your engine or even cause a crash if the oil ends up on the back tyre.
Don't use fuel hose. It will go hard and crack prematurely.
Use hose rated for hot oil.
Automotive auto transmission cooler hose is even better again.

I have had the starter and oil bag off and did not see it it goes back where the chain oiler feed line is?? can you get tranny line in 1/4 inch? that is the size of the vent line.

Important note on replacing oil lines:
The parts book specifies both the ID and the OD of the lines. If you buy certain automotive lines they will have a larger OD and will be very difficult to run in the limited space, and they may kink easily.
Correct sizes ...
oil lines: 3/8" ID, 5/8" OD
vent line: 1/4" ID, 1/2" OD

my bike is a 1976 xlh1000 if i take off the sprocket cover will i see the vent line?
