Default 06 39mm fork lengths?

I have an 06 xl custom with 39mm front forks. One of them I am having to replace b/c it is bent. I just baught (2) 39mm forks from the swap meet but they are one inch shorter. I have put on togather using the parts from the bent one and it seem like it will work. What is the differance in the forks? And do I need to do anything else?

Do the axle and rotor fit? If so, just throw 'em on. I wish I could find some that were an inch shorter for cheap.

I don't have all the part numbers for the 2006 forks, but I have them for the 2005, 2007->09 listed on this page. You can see the differences. From what I can tell, the slider (lower part) are all the same. The fork tubes, springs and damper tubes are generally where the difference in length comes from (or some combination of those parts).
