should, everyone i've seen of the ironheads just has the 4 bolts on the chrome supports to hold it in. Even if the holes dont line up it aint hard to make new ones

Not without some work. In addition to the mounting bolts not lining up, the older fender is quite a bit narrower than the '82-'93 ones. I put a replacement fender on my '83 XLX, but it was one from an '89 Evo model. Bolted right up, even had the circuit breaker clips still on it. I bobbed it a little and had it painted to match. I think it looks great...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

Well the only major difference I know of was the curved brackets with = new holes. However On mine those brackets move in and out, I pulled my rear fender to see if I could get a fishtail in there and the changing of the bracket nuts or the addition of washers would put it right where it needed to be.

On the fender topic, does anyone know a way to pull it out without scratching the living hell out of it?

Leave the fender struts attached to it and take off after removal.
