Burping sound in rear pipe?
My rear pipe has a hollow burping sound when idling. I dond notice it when riding but when I pull the clutch you can hear it and if you let the clutch out it tends to backfire. It seams to go away after I have been ridding for a while. Im new to this so I dont really know were to start. Any thoughts?

Are you referring to an actual backfire out the pipe, an off-idle stumble, or carb pop?

as it idles it stutters and has an uneven exhaust pattern unlike the front pipe that is smooth.

Is this something new?
When did it start?
What was the last thing that was changed or worked on?

MY 1200 Sportster, 2000 vintage, has never idled smoothly and if it did, something would be bad wrong.

I think i know the noise and its fairly common
For lack of a better word it sounds like "PLOOP" its not a carb pop or exhaust backfire either
I have also heard the "Chirp" but only when the bike is cold
I cant tell you how i made them go away but they are.
The only thing i really do is torque the exhaust to 120 inch pounds using the screaming eagle gaskets.
Check the carb seals with propane

I hear the same sound when I back off the enrichener after start up, but only when the bike is cold. Kind of a bloop sound. Never worried me before now. Is this normal? Should I be concerned? Maybe I should bring it to the dealer. Thanks for contributing to my neurosis. Now I'll never get to sleep.
