Fuel Gauge - FINALLY!
The good news: HD has finally decided to make a fuel gauge for Sportsters! See HD online:
Sportster® > Hand Controls > Clutch and Master Cylinder > Sportster Fuel Gauge Kit
Part number: 75031-09
The bad news: Fits '07-later XL and '08-later XR models. Available September 2009. MSRP US $249.95
Why couldnt this work with 2004-2006 carb models? Does it have something to do with EFI setup? Any ideas why it wouldnt work?

It wouldn't work because there's no sending unit in the tank.
Who needs a fuel gauge, anyway?

Odometer is fine for me. At 150-170, I start looking for fuel depending on how hard I am riding.

They're insane. Like everyone else, why would anyone need a fuel gauge except maybe for the novelty? For that many clams I could think of a multitude of better mods than a totally useless gauge.

Am I totally against a fuel guage?- No
Does the odomerter and reserve method work just fine?- Yes
In other words, it would have to practically fall in my lap and at a waaaaayy cheaper price than that.
An easy to install fuel cap with integrated analog fuel guage for $15.95 is the only way I'm going to have a fuel guage.
$250 for a convenience item is not convenient.

Yeah, I'll take one of those too. Can you post the link?
Seriously, I'd like to have one. I'm kind of a dipsh!t about remembering to set the odometer back to zero when I fill up. But not for $250. But there's always the reserve to keep my butt outta trouble. Moot point though, as I have an 04 and it wouldn't work anyway.

True keep it simple. Odometer works just fine. But I like me a dummy light because same as new girl i forget to reset the odometer...plus i don a lot of city riding ie actual mileage may vary lol.
