Ouch is right..
Makes me wonder what really happened. Did the SUV check brake the motorcyles or were they just following to close?? Also, were they riding 2 by 2?
I never ride 2 by 2, even with my family because I don't want the guy next to me to swerve into me and I want that escape route just in case I need to swerve that way.
Wow.. that's one screwed up day for those guys.

Dudes were clearly not exercising proper group riding technique. That sucks though

if the 2 suv's were braking at the same time chances are they were avoiding something maybe an animal, person or debris on road.if that were the case then if traffic was moving at 70 mph then the bikers didnt have a chance
and thats called an accident !

Dont sound like an accident to me, The witness clearly said the one SUV slammed on his brakes in front of the Bikers. Sounds like Murder not an accident. Bet the Suv is hidden in a garage right now, sure hope someone got the plate number and looks for justice!!

Murder, the witness said traffic was light, but following too close is one of my pet peeves. A bike with a good rider should never rearend an auto.

A+ The SUV could have missed the exit and tried to get over at the last minute.

Sudden unexpected braking was definitely the cause of the accident, and I hope the investigation determines the fault, but it cannot bring back what was lost.
I also do not ride 2 by 2, for the reasons mentioned - staggered pattern is the safest in a group, and if it starts to look like the bikes are getting too close, I'll pull out, drop back and get some space.
In this case, these guys have probably been riding together often, so they know each other's riding style - it definitely looks like the fault of the SUV driver.
It's too bad it ruined their day, but good that it reminded us of one more hazard out there...
