Really like what you've done to your bike, Mick. We think alike! For any other late 70's - mid 80's Sportster owners with 35mm forks, this is what I found to be just about the perfect source for gaitors. Honda GB500. They came with them, and their forks were 35mm, made by Showa (same maker of Harley suspension, FYI). They ain't cheap, like $50, but they fit like they were made for the Sportster. They even snap into the same grooves in the lower legs as the stock fork boots. Here's a pic of mine.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it (especially if you don't know what you're doing). Most Sportster problems are owner-induced.

I got it on eBay. Bought it only because i think it is cool. And i am a gauge guy. I have not gone thru a summer with it yet. Fall, winter, spring external cyl hd temp never gets above 275`F. No oil cooler hooked up.

Thanx for the tip. The ones i got are for 35 mm forks, but they do not fit right at the bottom as you can see in the pic. I had to leave on the fork seal dust covers.
