Broke Another Belt! Help w/ Belt to Chain Conversion
This makes broken belt number 3! Instead of spending the $150+ on another belt that i will break, I'm just going to convert to chain.
The parts that I figured that I need would be sprockets, chain, and chain guard. Should I also get a tensioner? What sprockets would you suggest going with for out of the hole performance and cruising?

I am betting you must have a bad sprocket, I am super hard on my bike and have never broken even one belt, and I weigh too much and launch hard and have been known to do the odd burnout and wheelie!
but as far as I know just get the sprockets, and a good quality chain...

possible but the belt didn't show any abnormal wear. It just stretched and snapped. I'll take a pic of it when I get home.
I want to go with the DID 530ZVM chain but can only find sprockets made for the 520 chain. Would the bike be OK running a 520 chain?
The sprockets I'm looking at are made by Renthal.

Yes, I agree... You have some other problem to break 3 belts... Probably a bad sprocket or alignement problem.
I have a chain on my bike.. And I hate it... I wish I could swap with you...

I pulled the pulleys off and looked them over carefully. They look fine so I went on ahead and installed another belt for now. I'll do the chain conversion when it's freezing outside and just be a little more cautios with this belt. I think the belt might have been damaged while being stored for a couple years too. I didn't know that there was a max limit on how far you can bend the belt and so on so it might have been my stupidity on this one.
The first belt that broke was do to doing a burnout and switching from one pavement to another. It didn't snap but took out a foot long row of teeth instead.
The second belt was just too tight and snapped almost immediately. It was also a previous used belt that we had from another Sporty so age might have played a role on that one.
So far the failing belt issue has been my fault. I have the new one installed and measured how much movent the belt has so that looks good. One last thing I need to do is make sure the wheel is straight and I will be able to start riding again! Or at least after I am done with the project that I just started on the bike. I'll post that in a few but will be under custom finishing.

I thought they had belt conversions for iron heads? If not, I bet you could make some money creating a kit that is!

If you want a sprocket conversion, Zippers has all the parts you'll need.
