Exhaust leak = Carb farts?
I installed forward controls on my bike this past Tuesday. I removed the front exhaust pipe to make the job of removing the right side mid controls easier.
The problem is, ever since then, I've been having a LOT more carb farts. I didn't replace the gasket at the head and I'm not sure if there's supposed to be a gasket between the muffler and the crossover pipe. A parts guy at my stealer said "No gasket" when I asked about it.
Though I can't hear or feel an exhaust leak at either conection, could there be a small leak that is causing my increased carb farts?

I can't say for sure that it's the cause, but the parts guy lied to you.
There is a "gasket" type deal for the crossover. It's kind of a braided metal ring, and it sits in the nipple of the muffler where it sits on the crossover. If your not careful, you could crimp the ring and cause the muffler not to sit on the crossover right.
I trashed mine when I put my mids on. I bent up one edge of the ring. The bike still ran, but when I replaced it, things seemed better. The engine was a bit rough until I replaced it.

Yep...that stealer scum lied! I stopped by a local Indy yesterday morning and picked up the gasket. The old one was toast!
After installing the gasket, I rode 30 miles yesterday and Paula and I rode 210 miles 2-up on a HOG ride today...I only had one carb fart!
