Default Here is a wide tire kit question

Hello everyone

Here is a simple wide tire kit question

I'm planing on adding the wide kit on my 05 sportster

Can we mount a 180 tire on the the stock rim ?? Or i have to buy an expensive larger rim $$$

180 is only 30mm wider than stock. Your issue would be hitting the belt/chain. Go out and measure between your stock tire and the belt then see what you have...if you've got more than 15mm, you should be good...20mm to play it safe.

Also, if you can fit a 180 on there, why would you need a kit?

No the 180 tire is too wide for the stock wheel, but you can do a 180 swap much cheaper than a kit.... I did the 180 swap on my 08 883L. All you need is the wheel of your choice, i went with a 18" x 5.5" spoked wheel, a 20mm belt and a 20mm rear pulley. The belt i used is from an 06 softail and the pulley i'm running is from a 07 fatboy.... Anyways i have attached my various threads, if you have any questions just pm me. i realy like this look wow and seem to be a moderate budget modification

do you remember what are the widest of your rim ?

The rim is an excel 18 x 5.5 rim, if you want to know the actual width i can measure it for you....... It's much cheaper if you piece a kit together instead of purchasing one.
