First major event in my bike's life...
Changed the oil in my bike for the first time ever. It's at 580 miles and I basically consider it an engine flush. Put a new HD chrome filter on and used Syn 3. Will eventually switch to Amsoil 20W-50, but I had 5 qts of Syn 3 lying around. BTW, I sure know how to make a mess...

The first time oil change is always a mess...you've probably already devised cleaner ways for the next time...like the two liter bottle cut lengthwise under the filter trick!

Lol. I made a mess of the first oil change too. The good part is that you saved yourself some money which, as we all know is a life long battle when you own a Harley.

Did my first oil change last week, the chrome filter looks great. I used an apple juice bottle cut in half. DIdn't spill a drop (OK maybe a couple).
Thanks for the excellent advice.

If ya don't have a plastic bottle laying around, you can fold a sheet of paper in half, then fold aluminum foil around it. Just enough stiffness to stay put.
I think I used half a roll of paper towels for the first oil change - what a mess! Just did the second one, didn't spill a drop where I didn't want it to go.
